William Bradford (1823 - 1892 )

American marine painter

 

 19세기의  열정적인 북극의 탐험가이자 화가,그리고 사진작가였던 William Bradford

 

처음에는 초상화가로 출발하였지만 항상 극지에  관심이 많았던 그는

1869년 북극탐사대(Baffin Island,Melville Bay,Greenland 지역탐사)

  일원으로서 실제로 탐험을 떠나게 되는데

이여행이  화가로서의 전환점을 가져오는 계기가되며

탐험기간동안 기록으로 남긴  사진들과 스케치를 토대로해서

많은 북극해양의 작품들을 남겼다.
